We went to Outback Steakhouse with Dennis tonight. Oddly enough, just that afternoon I had been thinking of their Victoria filet with the horseradish crumb crust (yummmmm). Kevin and Dennis got back pretty late from doing spring cleanups and Kevin suggested just going to Outback for dinner! yay, my unconscious psychic signals must have been working overtime to pull that one off.
By the time we called, they said it would be 6:00 before we could get a table. I was a little worried because I had a feeling it could easily be 7:30 or 8:00 till we got home. Having Tyler out that late at a restaurant could be a disaster. Throwing caution to the wind, we decided to do it anyway. We actually didn’t get seated until closer to 6:30. But my worry was for naught – Tyler was very well behaved! He happily played at the table until the food came, and even after he was done eating, he played quietly until the adults were done.
After I finished, I decided to take him in to the bathroom with me to get cleaned up. They have those “no touch” towel dispensers that shoot out a new towel after you tear one off. OMG, Tyler just thought this was the most amazing thing he had ever seen, and of course proceeded to tear off towel after towel, giggling madly each time a new one came out.
Eventually, I managed to convince him to stop tearing off the towels, by telling him we had to rush out and go tell daddy about this amazing thing. He ran back towards our table, and when he got there he jumped up on the seat, waved his hands around saying “wash a hands! wash a hands! towels out! magic towels!” (I had told him it was a magic towel machine). 🙂
When we left, Dennis held out his hand and said to Tyler “you want to take my hand? We’ll walk to the car”. Tyler likes Dennis, (all during the meal he kept saying “look dennis” as he showed him various things), but I wasn’t sure if he would be bold enough to take Dennis’ hand. But he didn’t even hesitate! They walked out to the car together, and Kevin said he thinks Dennis was tickled that Tyler let him do that.
All in all, it was a very nice evening.
