Allergist Follow-Up

We went back to Children’s Hospital today for a follow-up with Tyler’s allergist.  Unfortunately, he did test positive for wheat in a skin test.  Although from what I’ve been reading, skin tests are more accurate for negative results than positives. (Meaning, if the test comes back negative, he’s almost certainly *not* allergic to that thing, but if it comes back positive it could be 50/50 whether he’s actually allergic to it or not).  So to be on the safe side for now, we are going to avoid wheat for the time being.  That’s a bummer because so far, all of the nice “melts-in-your-mouth” type finger foods for older babies have wheat in them.  🙁   So I guess I will have to start checking out health food stores and such to see if I can find some alternatives for him.

On the up side, we have a new plan for managing his skin care, which will hopefully provide him some relief from the constant itching.  Plus, the allergist said that it is ok to give him zyrtec, and that we should give it to him every day.
