This must rate up there as one of the more brutal weeks of my life. We were outside for a little while last evening. Jagger wanted to come in, so we let him in and then we came in about 15-20 minutes later. Actually, Kevin came in first, then came running back out and said “Jagger’s lump ruptured, there’s blood everywhere!” It looked like a blood bath in the house. Large pools of blood all over the kitchen and living room. We freaked out. We found Jagger, and the lump hadn’t exactly ruptured, we aren’t exactly sure what happened. Maybe he bumped in on something and it split open a little or something, but whatever had happened, there was a LOT of blood all over the place. The bleeding was pretty much stopped when we found him, thank god. I was so afraid that he was bleeding to death or something. But he seemed ok, and didn’t even seem to be in any pain. We took him straight to Angell, because we thought if something is really wrong they may want to do emergency surgery on the spot or something.
We left at around 4:30 pm, and didn’t get there until around 6. Thank goodness he wasn’t in critical shape! (Of course, if he had been, we would have taken him to an emergency vet closer to home). They checked us in to the emergency room, and after 1 ½ hours we finally saw a vet. He checked Jagger and said he looked ok. Said his gums indicated that he hadn’t lost too much blood, and he didn’t have a fever, so the lump wasn’t infected (or not badly, anyway). He gave us a “cone” to keep Jagger from licking the lump and told us to return for the appointment tomorrow (Thursday) morning.
We got lost on the way home, but the silver lining was that from that, we found a much easier way to get there. We finally got home about 9:30 pm. Exhausted doesn’t even begin to describe the way we were all feeling.
