Sharing the View

We had a really neat moment the other day.  It was one of those times when words weren’t necessary, and the communication just happened.  Tyler was in the office, looking out of the window.  I was standing nearby, and all of a sudden he turns and holds his hand out to me.  I went over to him, and squatted down beside him and said “what do you see out there?”.  He smiled, and pointed, pressing his finger and then his face against the window.

Then, he started saying “da-eee, da-eee”, so I called to Kevin.  “Come here hun, Tyler wants to show you something”.  Kevin came in and took my spot next to Tyler.  Tyler smiled and pointed again, then went back to pressing his face against the window.

He had seen something out there that he wanted to share, and was totally delighted when we came and shared it with him.  It can be very frustrating with a toddler who has no words yet, not understanding what he wants, but when it clicks and you just “get it”, it is wonderful for everyone…
