We took Tyler to Boston today for his follow-up appointment with the gastroenterologist. She said we could up his dose of prilosec to 4 ml twice a day if we felt the 3 ml wasn’t controlling the reflux well enough. She also recommended going back on the elecare formula for two weeks or so, to see if his rash is from the Nutramigen. Nutramigen is “hypoallergenic”, but if a child is sensitive enough, they still might react to it. All the doctors claim that there is no way a child should be allergic to elecare, so that is the way to test it and see if it is the formula. She said to start off mixing them, instead of just switching over to the elecare all at once. I’m not sure the problem is the formula, because only a week ago his skin looked really good, and you would think if it was the formula that he would have shown some symptoms before this. This eczema/allergy stuff is like a constantly moving target; as soon as we think we understand what’s going on, something changes…
