We stopped at the playground last night after school. They had a neat little solar system board with a rocket ship on a track that you could drag to each planet. Since we’ve been working with Ty on letter sounds and sounding out words, I thought I’d have him take a try. I pointed to “Mars” and asked him if he could figure out what it said. He sounded each letter out as I pointed to it, then I told him to run all the sounds together. When he realized that it said “Mars” and he realized that he had figured it out himself, the big grin on his face was wonderful! Then he wanted to do all of them. He got “Moon” next (again all by himself!) and then we worked on the other ones together. The one in the middle was the Earth, and he said “wait mommy, I know this one, it’s the Earth!” I guess we all start out life thinking the Earth is the center of the universe. 🙂
